When Steve Bull joined Bells Pure Ice as CTO, the organisation was already operating on a hosted environment with a third-party provider. However, as Australia’s largest packaged ice supplier with 24/7 operations nationwide, the business required greater reliability, control, and scalability from its IT partner.
“We didn’t want to bring infrastructure in-house, but we needed complete uptime and availability,” Steve explains. “The existing provider had lost control of the firewall, and we couldn’t take that risk.”
Interlinked was selected to lead a national infrastructure transformation—delivering a hosted solution that included around 10 dedicated servers and centralised firewall management. Firewalls were replaced at all 11 remote sites to restore full security control. The migration needed to integrate legacy systems with new environments without interrupting business operations.
“That was a complex task,” Steve recalls. “But for us as a business, it was painless and seamless. Every site cutover went smoothly, with virtually no downtime. The project ran better than I anticipated.”
The key, he says, was Interlinked’s project management, communication, and ability to address even minor issues in real time. Their team worked in close partnership with internal stakeholders to ensure delivery aligned with operational needs, especially during Bells’ critical peak periods.
A major breakthrough came with the rollout of an MPLS network recommended by Interlinked. It unified the sites and simplified future expansion. “When we expanded into WA, we had to switch multiple sites on and off in a short timeframe—and the Interlinked solution made that painless,” Steve says.
